Being a burgeoning artist, I find myself interested in all kinds of projects that stretch me or challenge me in a new way. It also expands my capacity to do custom work and answer to any call. So when I was invited to paint a friend’s 90-year-old family heirloom patio table I was curious. When I found out he wanted a Native American medicine wheel, I definitely said yes!
We stuck to a traditional design with colors, which traditionally represent the four directions. The southwestern sun, done in gold shines its rays into the boundaries and corners of every direction. Totem animals—Bear, Wolf, Eagle, and Buffalo—act as guardians or sentinels over all things, and in all the directions.
